Flying Lines: Scale Matters: Those baffling fuel tanks

The location and size of holes in Brodak tank baffles allows fuel to leave the vicinity of the pickup. We are looking into the front end of a Brodak-baffled uniflow tank. Note that their baffle holes run the full length of the tank and are present back by the pickup end of where the feed tube is. I fail to see how this could do any baffling.

Slosh dynamics

Anti-slosh devices such as baffles are widely used in order to limit the adverse liquid slosh effect on directional performance and stability of the tank vehicles. Since most of the time, tankers are carrying dangerous liquid contents such as ammonia, gasoline and fuel oils, stability of partially-filled liquid cargo vehicles is very important.

Fuel Tank Pump/Sender Replacement

The reason: when going uphill with little fuel, the fuel will pool in back of the tank towards the vehicle's rear, where the pump can draw from it. To get the fuel send unit seated, it is necessary to swing it to your right (as you face the front of the car) so the end of the "barrel" can clear the in-tank baffles.
